The Day Israel Attacked America ― The Attack on the U. S. S. Liberty

On June 8, 1967, during Israel's Six-Day War (a preëmptive attack and land-grab war against an Arab coalition of states), Israel fighter jets and torpedo boats deliberately attacked and besieged the American spy ship, U. S. S. Liberty. Blocking all its S.O.S. communications (a violation of the laws of war), the Israeli forces made repeated sorties in a concerted attempt to destroy the neutral U. S. ship, and kill its entire crew. The incident, its 34 dead and nearly 200 injured, was subsequently covered up by the Israeli intelligence compromised, Johnson administration; a deal brokered with the exchange for the removal of Soviet-made missile batteries from the Vietnam War front, full recompense to Israel for all its military expenses incurred in waging the associated war, and a fourfold increase in U. S. "aid" ― an epoch marking the beginning of the U. S.'s tax payer funded financial support of Israel ($10M per day, as of 2020) that has since been in place. This dubious episode in U. S.-Israeli relations has been quietly slurred over by most historical annuls.
