Al On Iranian TV - July 2, 2010

This is Al on Channel 6 TV in Iran, live. The programme was supposed to be about the so-called Russian spy ring that had recently apparently been uncovered in the United States, and which had generated amused rather than concerned interest on both sides of the Atlantic. It was difficult to fill a slot of nearly an hour with analysis of such a non-event, so the ambit of the programme was widened somewhat, eg what effect will this have on American-Russian relations in the global context, and so on. Its parameters were sufficiently wide that I managed to get in the odd comment about the Gulf oil spill, and to denounce Tony Blair as a war criminal! [See this around 51 minutes 50 seconds].

At around nine and a half minutes into the programme, the reference I make to earlier spy scandals in the United States alludes specifically to the arrest on March 26, 1946 of Lieutenant Redin by the FBI. Redin was said to have bought secrets about the Bikini test ship “Yellowstone” for $250 from a naval engineer named Herbert Kennedy.

He was acquitted when it was shown that he had paid Kennedy for research in the Seattle Public Library. This was one of several such cases which was distorted by both the FBI and the controlled media. [Acknowledgments to Professor Quigley!]

The article I allude to herein, “Eavesdroppers” [at around twenty-four and a half minutes] was actually written by Duncan Campbell and Mark Hosenball, not by Campbell alone. Incidentally, there are two journalists named Duncan Campbell.
