"THE LAIRD AND THE LADY" - 7 PART 2, "EMBROIDERY" A NOVEL BY JOAN MARSHALL GRANT (1949) 1ST
Joan Marshall Grant wrote 7 books about her previous incarnations and this is her only fictional novel (published 1949) . A story about Marylda, an American millionaires travelling incognito to escape from fortune hunters. In a romantic French chateau she meets the Laird...they fall in love...they are summoned home to his Highland castle. Stories of haunted houses are legion : but this one, instead of retreating into materialism or indulging in flattering credulity, provides a provocative account of how a ghost began and how it ended. Surely a most vital consideration, for which of us is not in danger of joining their uneasy company.

Fiction – The Land and the Lady 1949
By turns poetic, inspirational, down to earth, challenging, funny and wise. Joan Marshall Grant was never conventional, always to be relied on to think for herself and ever ready to help other people.
