Cllr Jennifer Whitmore from Greystones has attacked National Party leaflets delivered in Wicklow calling for the restriction of uncontrolled immigration into Ireland and putting the needs of Irish people first.
Addressing the Wicklow locals who delievered the leaflets in a facebook post, Whitmore told them that they did not belong in Wicklow and that they would never have a place in Wicklow:
“You do not belong here. You will not create the fear and division that you seek. We are an inclusive community and your hatred has no place, and will never have a place here.”

Whitmore told 98FM that she deleted comments critical of her remarks on facebook and she beleived people shouldn't be "subjected" to leaflets from the National Party coming through their doors because they were "hateful and divisive".
Justin Barrett talked to 98FM and defended the leaflets.
Barrett pointed out that it was extraordinary that while the leaflets called out nobody as not belonging in Ireland, Cllr Whitmore thought it was "perfectly loving" to say that a group of Irish people local to Wicklow were not welcome to voice their own opinion there and that Cllr Whitemore wanted to decide what leaflets are allowed or not allowed.
Barrett suggested that Whitmore couldn't post the leaflets on her facebook as if she had, readers would have been able to see that they were not hateful or divisive.
He added "there's plenty of hatred coming from Cllr Whitmore" though.
