This video is a follow on from the previous eighteen videos dealing with the topics I’ve just mentioned. If you haven’t seen those videos, I would recommend you doing so before watching this one.
Let’s continue on talking about War.
Some people might think that I’m being overly dramatic by claiming that we’re at war.
So, let’s look at other aspects that might persuade those people. What follows is a somewhat random collection of real world examples with some commentary.
However, before we get into these examples, I want to say something about Free Speech and Censorship.
Free Speech and Censorship
I’ve talked about Free Speech and Censorship earlier on in this series, so this is a recap.
Free speech is a cherished idea and rightly so in my opinion.
Each and every one of us should be free to say exactly what he, or she wants - no matter what.
Free Speech shouldn’t come with any conditions attached. It should be unconditional.
Anything that goes against Free Speech can be considered as censorship.
I believe that Freedom of Speech necessarily trumps any distaste, or disapproval myself, or others, might have regarding what someone else might say.
So, that said, let’s look at some examples of censorship.
the Philippines
In the Philippines, regulatory authorities have shutdown the investigative news site Rappler.
Rappler is one, or was one, of the few media outlets in the Philippines that was critical of the Government.
Rappler appealed the decision. But the Philippino Securities and Exchange Commission said in a statement that the decision to revoke the company's license to operate had been upheld following the appeal. Why? Because the courts had concluded that Rappler's funding model was “unconstitutional”.
