This track was recorded back in 2015 for my album ‘One Day at a Time’.
It’s my version of the great hymn by Horatio Bonar. The arrangement has elements of Johnny Cash’s version of ‘Hurt’, with accompaniment by Rai Clews, Lesley Hirst and Sarah Brocklehurst who at that time were fellow members of The Tartan Painters.
I played 6 and 12 string guitars as well as fretless bass. Rai added his cajon and Lesley played her low D whistle. Sarah popped into the studio and added some violin. It was recorded in the minimum number of takes, mixed and mastered in-house and a small number of CDs were made.
Ongoing health issues and a lack of suitable venues meant that it received very little exposure. This video may bring the song to a wider audience and I’d be happy to hear your comments.
