Lady Godiva, Op. 41 by Vítezslav Novák

In 1907 the director of the Prague Municipal Theatre, František Šubert, was given an urgent commission to organise musical accompaniment to a new play detailing the exploits of Lady Godiva. Šubert gave two composers the task of composing part of the musical accompaniment, one was Josef Foerster and the other was Novák.

For Novák’s section, he composed the music to represent Lady Godiva herself, and reportedly completed this work in two days in October of 1907. The premiere performance of the work was given in November of 1907.

This work is comprised of a single movement.
