The Mob Reporter: Brakes on a biker war: Mongols MC and Hells Angels raided

New Zealand is trying to nip a biker war in the bud after a string of shootings, arson and fights. The police responded this week with raids and arrests. The Mob Reporter here with news of how the Mongols Motorcycle Club has unsettled the gangland in New Zealand. And how police are unsettling the Mongols.
There has been a huge influx of bikers in New Zealand after Australia started deporting organized crime figures. Last year, Mongols who were ousted from Australia settled in New Zealand and started the country’s first chapter of the Mongols, an old-school biker club formed in California in the 1960s. The new Mongol invaders patched over disgruntled members of the Hells Angels and Bandidos and emerged with a large posse of experienced bikers.
Almost immediately there was friction with local gangs, including the Greazy Dogs and the Mongrel Mob. There have been back-and-forth fights and six shootings so far this year.
This week police set out on raids and arrests in the Bay of Plenty area — saying the entire senior hierarchy of the chapter and most of its full-patch members and associates were arrested in a sweep called Operation Silk. Police raided 10 properties and found the Mongols were well armed. Nineteen vehicles, including five motorcycles, were also seized. Seventeen people were arrested. The raids come two weeks after the national president was allegedly found with a loaded handgun and arrested.
There are Hells Angels in New Zealand as well. And police also hit them this week. Police raids hit an HA clubhouse and other properties. A dozen guns, ammunition, a taser, four high-end cars, six custom Harley Davidson motorcycles, and more were seized. Thirteen people were arrested.
