Carreras, Domingo, Pavarotti and Mehta in Concert (Caracalla - Rome 1990)

On the evening of July 7, 1990 an 'impossible dream' came true. Against the majestic backdrop of the Baths of Caracalla in Rome, superstar tenors José Carreras, Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti were joined by conductor Zubin Mehta and more than two hundred musicians from the Orchestras of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and Teatro Dell'Opera di Roma, for a spectacular event that was to make musical history.

This is where it all started. The three appeared at the Baths of Caracalla and gave a taste of what would come for over 13 years. This is where we famously heard the group perform “Nessun Dorma” together for the first time. Or the first time they pitched in together to sing “O Sole Mio.” Both of these, by the way, were encores. The rest of the program is a mix of Spanish and Italian songs with two French selections and one in German.
