British Jewish cellist Jacqueline du Pré and Israeli pianist Daniel Barenboim were married in 1967 in Israel. They individually became the most esteemed musicians of their time, each in their own field. Jacqueline du Pré (1945-1987) achieved enduring mainstream popularity at a young age, but her career was cut short by multiple sclerosis, which forced her to stop performing at the age of 28; she died 14 years later at the age of 42. Despite her short career, she is regarded as the greatest cellist of all time. Daniel Barenboim is the very last big beast still standing in the classical music world.
