Lecture by Marc Van Ranst, Belgian Flu Commissioner, at the ESWI/Chatham House Influenza Pandemic Preparedness Stakeholders Conference on 22 January 2019.
Ab Osterhaus organized a "Pandemic Marketing Course" with Marc van Ranst on January 22, 2019. The event was named "Communication & Public Engangment" and took place on behalf of ESWI, the organization of interests to promote the vaccination readiness of citizens, under headed by Ab Osterhaus.
At this conference, Marc van Ranst is the guest speaker who, with humor and flair, presents the Mexican Flu as an example of its great success. After all, Belgium reached the highest vaccination rate in Europe in that Pandemic (which later turned out to be a mild flu) and Van Ranst is proud of that. He triumphantly tells a room full of international lectures how he did this and shares the tricks of the trade. How do you manipulate the press, politicians and the people and take them hostage in fear, so that they do what you want ... get themselves vaccinated.

Docsfair made a fascinating analysis with the documentary "Framing a Pandemic" and Flavio Pasquino (blckbx.tv) interviewed the producer Jean Jacques van Bemmel and lead actor Dick van den Berg the "Framing Specialist". After a short preliminary discussion, the documentary is shown and then there is a good discussion about what we have actually seen and how we should or can interpret this.
