We do a ton of positive training

Just about every dog that comes into our facility gets clicker trained and we use the dogs daily food as a reward based system. That’s how we train the dogs obedience. That’s gets switched over to a verbal marker Well why do I talk so much about punishment? A few reasons, no one else seems to be since they are afraid of the backlash, many trainers actually don’t know how to stop unwanted behaviors, trainers are just outright lying to the public by doing it but not talking about it. That’s how you stop an unwanted behavior and if you listen to my podcast, if you attend my seminars, you will hear question after question. Dog after dog. Struggling family after struggling family want certain behaviors stopped. So I talk about and I talk about it a lot. That makes just about 5% of the day in training though. The other 95% is rewards since we are training dm dogs what we want. You just can’t reward a dog out of a bad behavior or if you are trying you are going to be spending one heck of a lot of time teaching an alternative behavior but you actually never taught the dog the unwanted behavior is actually unwanted and it should stop. So I will continue to speak up. I will continue to take the heat. I will continue to listen to the marketplace about what folks really want and what keeps dogs out of shelters and in homes and take pain away from owners. I don’t. Train for folks to like me. I train to save lives and eliminate pain in humans with a dog that has behavior that really make the world small for the family/ dog relationship
