After being grilled by the United Nations, Minister for Justice, Francis Fitzgerald TD, promises to reform the Direct Provision System.
She says she will move swiftly to create a single asylum application procedure so as to speed up the process and shorten the time people spend in the direct provision system.
People in Direct Provision are not allowed to work or study, but this is to come under review.
To date the asylum system has cost the Irish taxpayer billions of euros, mainly in legal proceedings.
