Sabaton - Inmate 4859 (English Lyrics)

Witold Pilecki was a Polish cavalry and intelligence officer in the second world war. After the German army occupied Poland, Witold went into hiding and founded the secret Polish army, a resistance group to fight against the occupiers. He volunteered for a mission in which he would be arrested and held in Auschwitz prison camp, designation inmate 4859. While there, he produces the Witold's report detailing the exact workings of the camp. In 1943 he broke out and joined back up with the secret Polish army to take part in the Warsaw uprising. Not revealing his identity as the leader of the group and a captain in the former Polish army, he fought on the ground as a soldier. After the war, Witold was arrested by the Soviet authorities and underwent a mock trial in Warsaw in 1948, accused of treason by future Polish prime minister Józef Cyrankiewicz, a former Auschwitz prisoner who Witold had tried to help. He was executed later that year.
