Night of the Living Dead (1968)
George Romero's masterpiece as an independent young filmmaker. He created the concept of virus-infected zombies invading our streets haunting the living, but in all reality he did it to criticize our social groups and describe what humans are capable of once law and order are not a thing. People value him for this idea until his death, mediocre directors did their own versions of the undead attacking the living but plot-driven by sopa operas and glorifying the killing of soulless sacks of meat without realising they were becoming the thing the pioneer writer wanted to critique. When these directors got their chance to meet their idol and ask him about their creation, Romero was bold with them and told them straightforwardly how they didn't get his piece and were pretty distasteful as film directors.
Romero was influenced by horror/science fiction novel I am a Legend written by Richard Mathesdon, he didn't understand why the writer chose to start an apocalyptic scenario in the middle of it when everyone is already dead or infected with only one survivor left.
Until this movie the MPAA film rating system didn't exist so the children and teens who went to watch it got a little surprise. Sure, they were used to some horror movies but they had never saw something so eerie like this. Critics stated it to be a "unrelieved orgy of sadism" thinking that was a bad critic. Feminists were offended that the blonde was helpless and "virtually catatonic". Audience were stunned and completely in silence at the perfect panic being portrayed by the actors.
There's s much depth in this film and how it was made, I suggest you to do your own research and watch some analysis videos.
