G60 BMW i5 'Hulk' Doesn't Need M60 Power to Look Fresh Out of Fantasy Tuning Land
As per the new tradition, BMW continues to electrify its core models. So, after the X2 and iX2, the X3 and iX3 or the 7 Series and i7, we now have the eighth generation (G60) BMW 5 Series, also presented as an i5 electric sedan and Touring model.
The Battery-powered versions were launched simultaneously with the conventional, ICE-powered saloon and estate body styles, and the i5 comes in two distinct flavors. The base version is the i5 eDrive 40, featuring the company's trademark EV powertrain that's good for 335 hp and up to 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) with Sport Boost or Launch Control active, all sent to the rear wheels.
Adding an extra electric motor to the front axle enables the classic xDrive all-wheel drive, and the i5 M60 then rocks 593 hp and 820 Nm sent to all wheels. Both use the same 81.2-kWh battery pack for an EPA range of up to 300 or 256 miles, depending on the version, but of course, the M60 is much faster – zero to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds instead of 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 143 mph instead of 12 mph on the eDrive 40.
BMW says that whatever you choose will still cost you an arm and leg – in America, the base i5 starts from almost $67k, whereas the M60 model has a starting MSRP of over $84k. That's just $6k shy of a Tesla Model S Plaid, which comes with tri-motor AWD, 396 miles of EPA-rated range, a top speed of 200 mph, and zero to 60 in just 1.99 seconds if you nail the launch just right! So, unfortunately for BMW, it looks like the i5 M60 is not such a great deal.
Well, no worries, as the imaginative realm of digital car content creators has a solution – make the i5 a visual monster that will scare the bejesus of any 1,020-hp Tesla Model S Plaid into immediate fight or flight mode. Ildar, the virtual artist better known as ildar_project on social media, usually plays with tuned vehicles - so is anyone surprised by this i5 'Hulk?' Not at all, frankly, as this pixel ..
