We perform a tribute to Paul Novak, one of the strangest boys I ever met while in my final 2 years in Amery Hill School (1979-1980). The song is respectfully dedicated to he and his magnificent father. Our instrumental tribute (simply called Paul Novak) is also available on Bit Chute.
Paul Novak was really rather weird;
throughout the school he was shunned and feared.
Girls fancied him, it cannot be denied,
but they avoided him for they were terrified.
He hit me in the chest. He punched me in the face.
The way he treated me was a bloody disgrace.
You could never call him a friendly lad
yet I still fancied him like mad.
His father wrote books nobody ever read
to try to keep the family clothed and fed.
That boy had violence in his head
so you had to be careful what you said.
I tried so hard to be his friend
but it nearly drove me round the bend.
He was an awkward, surly, miserable sod
yet I idolised him like a god.
Yes, I idolised him like a god.
