Students March Through Bristol, Demanding Action on Climate Change

Thousands of students from primary and secondary schools across the UK took part in Youth Strike 4 Climate demonstrations on February 15, demanding action on climate change and promoting environmentalism. The demonstrations saw students walk out of lessons or fail to attend school. Parents on social media explained their reasoning for letting their children miss school. The protests follow the action of 15-year-old Swedish student Greta Thunberg, who skipped school in order to protest outside the Swedish parliament. Her actions inspired similar protests walkouts staged by students in Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany and Australia. Organiser Anna Taylor, of the UK Student Climate Network, said “we’re running out of time for meaningful change, and that’s why we’re seeing young people around the world rising up to hold their governments to account on their dismal climate records.” Credit: Ross Merritt via Storyful
