It is 50 years since the release of Roxy Music's eponymous debut album - a set which along with David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust (released on the same day) introduced the notion of post-modern pop music into the mainstream. Like Bowie, Roxy mixed and matched elements of rock and roll's still fairly new past along with a dash of futurism, art and literature, applied with irony and a hint of cynicism.
The impact on pop (particularly in Britain) was immediate and presaged the arrival of punk, new wave, art rock and much more beyond. This programme tracks the artists that have to some degree or another been influenced by the band in the years since.
Featuring Sex Pistols, Magazine, Chic, Hazel O'Connor, Japan, The Smiths, Suede, Super Furry Animals, Pulp, Moloko and Franz Ferdinand. There are tons of others that could be mentioned too...
