Undertale (Pt 8): Neo, Through Two Tough Battles, Achieves an Ending
[MOSTLY BLIND LET'S PLAY] - SPOILERS IN THE DESCRIPTION! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!
On his way through the capital, Neosekken is told the tale of Asriel and the first human who fell into the Underground. He learned how they both met, how they were raised together by the King and Queen of the Underground, and how they met their demise in an attempt to free all of monster-kind from the Underground - a tragedy that broke the spirits of everyone in the Underground, and saw the King and Queen split apart when the King promised revenge and genocide against humanity for taking the King and Queen's children away from them. Since Neo knows that Asgore is only one soul away from acquiring all the human souls he needs to break the barrier and start his campaign against humanity - and that it is HIS soul that Asgore is ultimately after -, it becomes apparent to Neo that a violent confrontation with Asgore is inevitable.
As he enters Asgore's castle, Neo is confronted by a familiar face, who proceeds to cast judgement on him for the actions he made throughout the game up until this point - while revealing the true nature of some of the character stats to him, and the role they play in gauging Neo's overall character based on said actions. After judgement is cast, Neo is allowed to proceed to Asgore's throne room, but on the way Neo makes a brief detour and discovers a coffin that makes him question the idenity of the character he's been playing up until now. He then makes his way to the throne room proper.
Finally meeting the king of the monsters himself, Neosekken greets Asgore with apprehension, a feeling that Asgore himself clearly shares with him as he seems very reluctant to enter a confrontation with Neo. Indeed, as Asgore prepares himself for the upcoming battle, he gives Neo every opportunity to save his game, prepare himself however he needs to, or take care of any other business he may have if he has any. But Neo, as far as he could tell, has done everything he could up until that point, and has nowhere to go but forward, and as soon as that's made clear... the battle between Neo and Asgore begins - and Asgore makes mercy in this confrontation an impossibility...
After several tries against him, Neo eventually comes out on top, and Asgore, in his weakened state, tells Neo the truth about his feelings regarding his promise to monster-kind to eradicate humanity and take back the surface world by force, and offers Neo the chance to move past the barrier and go home, preventing a new war between Monsters and Humans. Neo chooses to stay, however, and it seems like his decision touches Asgore's heart in a profound way. But as Asgore is expressing these feelings to him, something unexpected occurs - and before Neo knows it, he finds himself in a SECOND confrontation. A confrontation that has much bigger stakes on the line than the one before it, and is MUCH more terrifying...
Neo manages to come out on top in this second confrontation as well, and after he does he seems to find himself having unlocked an ending...
