Haydn completed this symphony in 1761 as part the “Day Trilogy” of symphonies (6, 7 and 8). This symphony bears the name “Le midi” or “The Noon”, which followed the symphony No. 6 (Morning Symphony) and precedes the symphony No. 8 (Evening symphony).

This work is comprised of four movements:
I. Adagio
II. Recitativo: Adagio
III. Menuetto and Trio
IV. Finale: Allegro
