Cops are increasingly being subjected to vicious verbal abuse on New York City streets — and doing next to nothing about it — because of a hands-off policy that’s being preached from the top, law enforcement sources told The Post.
The cops allowed the 20-year-old to videotape himself going on an offensive, foul-mouthed tirade against them for nearly five minutes before one of the officers finally did something despite all but one of his fellow cops walking away, the video shows.
Some law enforcement sources said the incident once again illustrates the ridiculous hands-off approach that officers have been trained in.
Christian Roman, of Staten Island, launched into his verbal assault on the cops around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, after he was stopped and searched near Fifth Avenue and 53rd Street in Sunset Park because police said he matched the description of a suspect with a gun.
“S–k my d–k!” Roman shouts repeatedly at the officers from the 72nd Precinct. “Tell your daughter to come see me to s–k this d–k! F—-t!”
The officers mostly ignored his comments, although one cop who identified himself by the surname Chan stopped several times to calmly ask Roman to cut out the graphic language.
“If you keep yelling obscenities like this, you’re going to get a summons for disorderly conduct,” Chan warned.
Roman kept running his mouth, so Chan eventually broke out the handcuffs.
Roman was arrested, given a summons for disorderly conduct at the 72nd Precinct station house and released, according to NYPD officials.
“I got a little angry,” Roman told The Post on Sunday. “Every time I’ve been running into police, it’s been bad vibes. I don’t know what it is that I did wrong. I’ve been in trouble before. I’m a young kid, I make mistakes. I don’t got no felonies. I’m not no crazy person. I finished high school.”
