26 Maggio 2008. Memorial Day, giornata di commemorazione dei soldati americani e l’ultimo giorno di Victoria Harding, prima che sparisse nel nulla. Quindici anni, secondogenita di Lawrence e Caroline Harding, una delle famiglie più ricche e influenti del posto.
15 Ottobre 2018. Un lunedì mattina come tanti nella pacifica Meredith. Dopo giorni di forte pioggia, insistente e incessante, splende finalmente il sole. Quello che affiora dal terreno smosso, seppur consumato dal tempo, è sicuramente un corpo umano. Non un cadavere qualsiasi, bensì quello di Victoria Harding, la ragazza scomparsa dieci anni prima. Un evento pronto a far ripiombare la comunità nell’incubo, ad aprire vecchie ferite, a far tremare i cittadini perbene: “Chi ha ucciso Victoria Harding?”
