Does the Parable of the Prodigal Son Support OSAS? [2019]
We find the Parable of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15:11–32. It does not appear in the other Gospel accounts. Many proponents of Once Saved Always Saved claim the Parable of the Prodigal Son supports OSAS. In fact, we easily find that it disproves Once Saved Always Saved. The distinction is found in the difference between repentance and salvation. They claim that because the son repented, it proves he could not lose his salvation. However, that is an illogical statement. One does not follow from the other. In fact, because the son repented, it provide he was required to repent. That also proves the consequences of not repenting were real and threatening. He was lost and his father was not coming for him. He would have died lost if he had not repented and returned. His salvation would be lost without his conscious choice of repentance.
