Mozart completed this symphony in 1786, with the premiere performance being given in January of 1787 in Prague. The name of the symphony likely comes from the fact that the premiere was given in Prague and was warmly received by the public, although some evidence suggests Mozart composed the work specifically in honour of his Bohemian fans in Prague.

The work is comprised of three movements:
I. Adagio – Allegro
II. Andante
III. Finale
