Eugene Onegin, a young dandy from St. Petersburg, is a tormented soul who has nothing left to live for. Abandoning his late father's inheritance to creditors, he decides to retire to the countryside in his uncle's old manor. There he befriends Vladimir Lenski, a newly settled neighbour, and through him meets the Larines, whose youngest daughter, Olga, his new friend wishes to marry. At first sight, Tatiana, Olga's elder sister, falls in love with Eugene. But he rejects her advances...
