Ernst Zundel - Unforgotten / Unvergessen
A short while ago I had the opportunity to visit the home of the late but GREAT man., Ernst Zündel.
It's a place of fond memories for me, as over the years it was where I had many lively and thought-provoking conversations with a good friend, while sitting at the small and book-cluttered kitchen table, inside of his 400+ year-old ancestral home, in the beautiful mountains of the Schwarzwald (Black-Forest) of south-western Germany.
But most of all., it was a friendship with a man of great determination in search of truth, AND in the defense of the 'good-name' of his own German Folk.!!
While there, I also had the opportunity to 'pay-my-respects' at the gravesite of this great 'warrior for the truth', but was dismayed at the way in which he had been 'laid-to-rest'., as it was characteristic of what a 'beggar's grave' would look like :(
It was just a large, un-cut, un-shaped 'rock', which was laid flat, and upon it were the names of a dozen or more other 'common-folk', and was told that it was a place were those who could not afford anything better were laid-to-rest, and that the 'rock' was surrounded by the 'ash-urns' of those named there on.
BUT., I was VERY pleased to see that someone had spent the time, effort and money to have a small but beautifully made marker-stone to honor such a man, which read., 'Ernst Zündel, Ungebeugt' (Ernst Zündel, unbowed).!! :) :) :)
The short 'slide-show video' above was just simply made to help myself and others to remember the tremendous struggles of a man who's only crime was to 'question history' and to restore his German people's honorable and upright reputation...
The background music chosen, is from an old German military song entitled: "Ich hatt' einen Kameraden" (I once had a comrade), and for those who would like to hear the music and lyrics (German & English) in their entirety, here's a web-link to a YouTube video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Y1Z1y2PSNw ) in which the lyrics begin at about 50 seconds into the video.
As a side-note, once Ernst was finally released in 2010 from 7 long years in prison (2 in Canada and another 5 in Germany) he began to restore his family's old house, and is the reason for the 'EZ 10' shown on the side of it. Also, the red roses across the front of his home were just one of his many non-political 'passions'.!
Sooo., with boundless acknowledgement of his accomplishments., I wish and pray for Ernst and his wife Ingrid to 'Rest In Peace'.!., and that it is now OUR responsibly to 'carry-on' where he had left-off.....
