I used to look at talented friends and agonise over why they didn’t put their works on the internet.
There’s a guy who’s talented in drawing cartoons and I used to think, what a waste that he’s not just drawing a cartoon every day and posting it on Instagram.
I know a talented pianist and I wished he would post videos of himself playing.
The thing is, talented people don’t go around thinking, I’m so talented. Most of the time, they just think of themselves as normal. “Ah, everyone can draw,” says the born cartoonist.
“Ah, everyone can paint,”thinks the born artist.
“Ah, everyone can play,” thinks the born musician.
But I also do know a talented illustrator who does post on Instagram regularly.
And I recent learned of a talented bassist friend of mine who’s started posting clips of his bass playing on YouTube.
Because I don’t have that born cartoonist talent, I can see the skill of my born cartoonist friend and can think of what a waste that talent is not being shared to the world. Meanwhile, I’m quite sure my cartoonist friend is thinking, “Ah, who wants to see my doodles?”
While I’m thinking, “Ah, who wants to read my drivel?”
And so I’ve decided to commit ego suicide and write and record videos to upload. I’m committing ego death with each video I write and upload.
Because it’s not my talent or face that matters, but God’s words coming through me that can bless a world of people who need to hear, virtually all of whom I’ll never meet in real life.
