why can't leftists, or really anyone these days, get this through their thick fucking skulls? Whenever I hear discussion about immigrants and refugees, housing is not the first thing people bring up. People are not statues. You can't just place them in some empty field and leave them there. They are moving, breathing objects that take up space and resources. Where I live, home prices have increased the most, outpaced only by Idaho and Montana. Apartments are simply not available. The waitlists are mind-boggling.
This should be a very simple issue. If you do not even have enough housing for your own current residents, you CANNOT invite new people. But instead the conversation always skips over and ahead to irrelevant talking points. I feel like I'm living in Sweden (and not just because we have tons of Somalis), a country that imported so many refugees despite an overwhelming shortage of housing. Now they are discussing bringing Afghans to my state.

There isn't a shortage of housing. There is a shortage of inventory on the market, but there are MILLIONS of homes owned by people who let them sit empty, and many more own by institutional investors and foreign governments who purposely keep them off market. There is a house directly across the street from me that has been empty for over 5 years. It's owned by a "trust". Mexicans mow the lawn. If I put my house on the market it would literally sell that day.
