Thousands of Haitians rocked the capital Port-au-Prince ahead of a visit by U.S. National Security Council official Juan Gonzalez today, demanding U.S.-backed president Ariel Henry resign.
While Haitian protesters were on the streets continuing their 6-week-long uprising, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., Jeffrey DeLaurentis, told a U.N. Security Council meeting the U.S. condemns "acts of violence, looting, and destruction" in Haiti.
The protests began when Henry announced a cut to fuel subsidies that caused energy prices for already impoverished Haitians to soar.
Henry’s move came in the wake of the World Economic Forum’s launch of the so-called “Great Reset” initiative, whereby the IMF told countries to end fuel subsidies. Shortly after, the IMF launched a program to track Haiti’s finances that would culminate in new loan authorizations, i.e. a new round of debt and plundering.
Henry was installed as interim president by the so-called Core Group which is led by the U.S. Canada, E.U., and Brazil.
