Return of the Phantom (1993, PC)

Return of the Phantom is a point-and-click adventure which was developed and released by MicroProse. The story builds upon the famous novel The Phantom of the Opera. It starts off in present-day Paris (i.e. 1993, the game's release year) where a horrible incident overshadows the premier of the opera Don Juan Triumphant. A large chandelier crashes down into the audience, killing several people and causing chaos. You take the role of Raoul Montand, an inspector, who happens to be among the audience. Raoul discovers that many aspects of the incident hint at the famous Phantom of the Opera, who had supposedly lived in the catacombs below the opera house in the 1880s. Not only was Don Juan Triumphant allegedly written by the Phantom, he also crashed the chandelier back in the 1880s, and several members of the staff claim to have seen the Phantom around. Some think the Phantom is after the singer, who coincidently is called Christine, just like the singer the Phantom was in love with in 1881.
