Story as I've read it. The combat team was equipped with flash bangs not expecting serious resistance. The five soldiers that died were the advance team and entered a hallway access that was forbidden to everyone. They were
gassed in this hallway. Then the secondary team moved in. The only one to actively resist was Gina Haspel's body guard who was killed. Haspel was injured. Everyone else just put up their hands. All this is speculation based on open source information.
