Stanley is taken to his apartment where The Narrator explains a bit of truth about The Bucket. He created The Reassurance Bucket because he felt Stanley needed a friend, but soon Stanley spent too much time with The Bucket, listening to it, obeying it, and ignoring The Narrator. The Narrator suddenly misses the days when Stanley obeyed his orders. The Narrator comments that The Reassurance Bucket is nothing more than an ordinary bucket, but then takes a liking to it. He starts to develop feelings and an obsession for The Bucket. He demands Stanley hand The Bucket to him and Stanley refuses and tries to runaway with it.
