4th Grade Math 3.1, Strategies to Multiply 2-digits by Tens

We can use several strategies to multiply by tens. We can use place value, a number line, Mental Math, the Associative Property of Multiplication, and the Commutative Property of Multiplication. We review the Associative and the Commutative Properties of Multiplication. We show how the Associative and Commutative Properties can be used together. We show examples of how to multiply tens by using place value. We use mental math, to multiply basic facts with the number of zeros in the factors as the number of zeros that will be in the product. We also show how to use mental math by using "halving and doubling". We use a number line to multiply 2-digit numbers. The factors in the equation will help us decide which strategy to use. We solve two word problems involving multiplication with 2-digit factors. We find the answer to the riddle, "The product of my number and twice my number is 288. What is half my number?", by using a table and the strategy Guess and Check.
