KBC's British bailiffs told to cease their occupation of Strokestown property (Ireland)
The British bailiffs who were hired by KBC Bank to repossess a property in Strokestown, co. Roscommon have been told by anti-eviction activists to cease their occupation of the property.
Sources tell the Democrat Newspaper that a chainsaw was used to cut down the front door and the property was stormed from the front and back, via doors and windows by over seventy men with baseball bats on Sunday morning at around 5AM. Four cars belonging to the bailiffs were torched outside the property. The activists were described as wearing high-viz jackets.
Many of the bailiffs fled into the fields behind the property when it was stormed. One of the team set two dogs on the anti-eviction activists but the dogs were subdued and man was told told to leave the property and never “touch an elderly person in the 26-counties again”. He was also informed that his name and address were known and that the activists would return if the occupation of the property was not ended.
The family who own the home farm have been there for three generations and consist of two elderly men (brothers) and their sister. Videos of their eviction went viral on social media on Saturday evening, receiving over 150,000 views in a period of less than 6-hours, and growing.
The owner of the home was violently attacked was dragged from the house days earlier by the ears and assaulted, it has been claimed.
Retired Garda Kevin Taylor - a friend of the McGann family - also claimed he was assaulted and punched “20 or 30 times” by aggressive bailiffs hired by KBC Bank on Tuesday.
