Has Financial Services Regulation made the world a safer place?

Motion: This house believes financial services regulation has made the world a safer place for investors

On 5th December 2018, the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) Wealth Management forum hosted a debate on regulation and its effectiveness. Before the debate commenced, 68% of the audience agreed with the motion while 32% disagreed. The debate was conducted under Chatham House Rules, hence this video is a voice recording of the presentation made in opposition to the motion - the rest of the debate wasn't recorded

The vote, at the end of lively discussion and final summations, revealed that 18% of the audience changed their minds to disagree with the motion, ie. the final vote was 50/50. The debate raised issues of concern to us all.
