Vaccine Victim: Mushtaq Ashraf, Age 35 years, Kolkata, West Bengal

The interviewee's brother Mushtaq Ashraf was a fit and healthy 35 year old person. He worked for a company in Kolkata, India. The company was pressurising its employees to get injected by the covid vaccine and decided to do so in the company's premises on 24th of May 2021. Mushtaq Ashraf ji was given the vaccine on that day since the company had mandated it, no health checkup was done before giving him the vaccine. Within 3 hours of taking the covid vaccine, he got terribly sick and had to be sent home. His health condition did not improve and he was struck by fever. Meanwhile, the company was continously asking the family to get Mushtaq hospitalised. So, the family got him aditted to the hospital the next day. His health condition did not improve much and he was tested positive for covid-19. He was in the hospital for 13 days after which his oxygen levels dropped sharply and unfortunately, he passed away. Registering AEFI was a very tedious process with no support from the company and it took a long time for them to obtain the AEFI number. The family is still uncertain if the AEFI has been approved or not.
