Ireland’s Minister for Agriculture, Charlie McConalogue, confirmed that a cow culling scheme is in the works, where as many as 65,000 cows per year might need to be slaughtered between 2023 and 2025. This is to meet 2030 emissions reduction targets and he claims the scheme is voluntary.
🔹The Irish Farmers’ Association believe such reports further fuel the view that the gov't is working behind the scenes to undermine their dairy and livestock sectors. Reducing dairy or beef production in Ireland will also lead to production moving to other countries. For example, Brazil will just produce more and Ireland will end up importing.
