KURDISTAN - 'Hele Hele Hele!' - Turkish Kurd Folk Group - KOMA ROZERIN - Diyarbakır
[Wait up to 10 seconds before Bitchute video buffers to play]
KOMA ROZERIN are a Kurdish Folklore Dance and Song Troupe from the provincial capital city of Eastern Turkey, Diyarbakır. Diyarbakır is an important city in terms of business, agriculture, law courts, hospitals, university, political activism and of course The Arts, particularly Kurdish music and dance. However, a large number of Turkey's classic ARABESK [Turkish Popular Music in the style of Arabic Music] singers including, Müslüm Gürses, Mahsun, Özcan Deniz...to name a few. There is a lot of musical talent in the people of Diyarbakır and neighbouring Şanlıurfa.
This commerical popular presentation of Kurdish Folk is from the VCD Kurd productions of 2000 following Turkish Republic Reforms ending the 70 year prohibition on languages other than Turkish that included Laz in the North, plus Arabic and Kurdish in the South East. The reform was an extreme measure enacted to propogate the New Turkish Language of 1928.
This series of videos are really interesting as they are from an independent media Kral Müzik. So the production is basic in filming on analogue camera and simple editing. However, this very simplicity does capture a lot of rawness and naturalness of the Kurdish People and their love of their Language, Music, Dance and Communty. The filming does give glimpses of how people in Kurdistan and Turkey are. We see a love of culture, a liking of being together with family and friends, tradition and group performances. We also see that these people are quite kind, hospitable, modest and a little conservative but are trying to overcome their shyness to show off Kurdish Life on the video as best they can. It is a great sight to share with them!
The majority of Kurdish VCDs [the chosen media due to restrictions on non-Turkish broadcasts that were still in place] were fantastic productions by Dilovan.8mm. Salih Dilovan is a skilled and talented musician and media director with a string of impressive Kurdish Videos Clips to his credit. These show more sophistication of media but I think Koma Rozerin provide just as much entertainment in this video.
ORCHESTRATION
The song is like a sort of MEDLEY [long pieces stringing together lots of smaller songs] of Kurdish folk ditties but kept together with the drum machine and choruses of 'Hele Hele Hele' and 'Vay Vay Vay'. The MEDLEY is remarkably long, it is over 12 minutes of music for one song. The singing is mimed to a multi-track recorded backing track. This works well for dance videos as it allows the performers freedom to dance and apparently 'sing' without getting out of breath or need to mic-up and control volume levels for instruments and vocalists. It also reduces production costs.
The song FORM [sections over time] is typical STROPHIC [one section of tune with little sense of verse-chorus that is repeated in voices and instruments]. Kurdish Music usually employs STROPIC form. In this song the instruments play the STROPH then th
