Mayor of Auckland wants to fine travellers for trashing New Zealand

The mayor of Auckland, Phil Goff, wants to fine some travellers for trashing New Zealand and wants the police to charge them for fraud.

The group of tourists are accused of scamming restaurants across New Zealand since arriving on January 11.

The family also supposedly demanded alcohol and disrupted other passengers during their flight to Auckland .

Footage shows a young boy telling a local woman: 'I'll knock your brains out' after the family were accused of littering a beach.

They face deportation after being served papers after row at a Burger King, the latest in a string of incidents.

Today, a 26-year-old woman connected with the group was arrested and charged with theft in Hamilton, where she is due in court on Wednesday.

The group of around 12 includes brothers John and David Johnson, their partners, children, and mother, Eileen Doran, of Liverpool, who arrived in New Zealand on Friday.

They said they are a 'respectable' family who were 'here to see the Hobbits' - but their plans have been 'f***** up' by the accusations against them.

Some members of the group spoke to the Herald and said the issue at the beach had been blown out of proportion. They also denied fleeing two Auckland restaurants without paying for their meals.

Instead, John Johnson said they come from a good family and his grandfather was the "10th richest man in England".
