This is why doing drills and taking advantage of opportunities like the sound of tornado sirens is an important part of preparedness and survival. Practice your emotional and mental behavior not just your physical response and gear. Calm and focused. You're desensitizing yourself actually. In a real emergency, panic is not an option. Freezing unable to act or think is not an option. This will happen to more people than you might think in a real unexpected emergency. How will you react? Simple. You will do as you practice.
