Andrea Jenkyns demands two changes from May to back deal
Andrea Jenkyns, outlined the “two big" changes Mrs May must make to get any chance of gaining the backing of Tory Brexiteers. Ms Jenkyns also claimed that meetings some Tory Brexiteers have already had with the Prime Minister “gives Brexiteers hope”.
She said: “I understand that the meeting with former ministers who are on the Brexit side, including John Whittingdale, went really well with the Prime Minister at the back end of last week, so that gives us Brexiteers hope actually that the dialogue is open.
“As Brexiteers we are open to putting our views forward, to listening, but I think ultimately what we would like to see is ensure the backstop, it’s got legal text attached to it, but also why are we giving the £39billion for virtually nothing in return.
“So those are the two big things for us Brexiters.”
The Conservative Party MP was asked whether “removing” the backstop mechanism or adding a time-limit to it, would be the “minimum” to help bring around Tory Brexiteers to support the Prime Minister’s agreement.
