These are Weeks of Days and not of Years. The 70 Weeks of 490 Days occur about 16 Months before the days of the Great Tribulation (The Time of Jacobs Trouble Begin).
It’s one time line, from beginning to end. There are 3 Parts to this one time line.
Daniel 9:24
Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy place.
Meaning
Here we are told that 1) sin, guilt and transgression will be brought to a conclusion 2) that everlasting righteousness will be brought in 3) and that a most holy place will be anointed.
The finishing off of guilt, sin and transgression is connected with the death of the Messiah the Suffering Servant who is yet to come. The appearance of the Messiah coincides with the appearance of the Assyrian, as we will see.
Daniel 9:25
So you are to know and discern that from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; it will be built again, with plaza and moat, even in times of distress.
Meaning
There will be a period of 7 Weeks (49 Days) until an order will be issued to restore and rebuild Jerusalem, and until the Messiah the Prince comes to do this work. The city will be built in the fashion and distress of the times.
Daniel 9:26
Then after the 62 weeks (434 Day Period) the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, and will have no help whatsoever. The people (the Chaldeans) of the Prince who is to come (the Assyrian) will destroy the city and the sanctuary. And its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined.
Meaning
After the 62 Week (434 Day) Period, the Messiah will be cut off, and the People (the Chaldeans) of the Prince Who is Coming (the Assyrian) will destroy the City and the Sanctuary. This entrance will be as a flood, and there’ll be war, and desolations until appointed end.
Daniel 9:27
And he (the Assyrian) will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate.”
Meaning
The Prince (the Assyrian) Who is Coming, will call a halt to the hostilities for 1 Week (7 Days), but will break this during half way. He’ll stop all sacrifice and worship. This’ll be for 2300 evenings and mornings (Daniel 8:13-14 and 11:32).
This abomination that causes desolation will be set up, and destruction by means of the Great Tribulation will be carried out until destruction is poured out on the Assyrian.
Messiah Still to Come
According to this passage, this is when the Messiah will come, and his coming coincides with the end of sin, guilt and transgression. He is cut off when sin has reached its highest point (compare Daniel 8:23).
The order to rebuild Jerusalem marks the coming of the Messiah, and his death marks the beginning of the Great Tribulation Period in Israel, and the Invasion of the evil of the North (Jeremiah 6:1).
Elijah Still to Prepare Israel for Day of Yahweh
From this point Elijah should appear and begin to get Israel ready for the coming of Yahweh. At the end of this the Messiah comes again, into his Temple, and he comes to save and purify his people (Israel).
According to these passages, and others, the Messiah is still to come, the servant that is to suffer, and stone that is to be rejected. He’s coming at a very crucial point in the future to finish off and make an end to all sin, and not at any time before it.
