Two men—resident Travis Seymour and guest Matthew Anderson, both 34—sustained what the Sheriff's Department called serious burn injuries in the 1:30 a.m. explosion or ensuing fire and were taken away by ambulance for medical treatment, said Senior Deputy Robert Berger, public information officer for the Sheriff's Department. Lindsey Seymour, the 32-year-old wife of Travis Seymour, and their 3-year-old child, were also in the home but reportedly were uninjured. The child is currently under the care of the county's Department of Children's Protective Services, according to Berger.
Berger said officials believe the explosions were caused by complications of a process commonly referred to as "honey oil extraction," in which oil with a high concentration of THC is extracted from parts of marijuana plants, such as stems, that normally would be considered of not much value. Butane is used during the process and officials believe a glitch of some sort in the process of heating the butane may have caused the explosions.
