This never made sense to me, since I was six years old. If I was so highly spiritually attained, as Gary Mitchell was, in this second pilot episode, filmed around July 1965, a year before the show aired, I would not have any motive to harm people, especially my own comrades in the militarchy. When Peebles wrote this piece, likely he had to have a bad guy to sell the show.
