A contest between a mortal and a Deity can only result in tragedy-but what if one of the Muses Herself demands justice?

Early Auteur Louis Feuillade (who would go on to create the sprawling masterpieces of Les Vampires in 1915 and Judex in 1916-also featured Down the Channel) takes the Greek myth of Arachne out for a spin in this 7 minute feature. Poor Arachne, having been challenged to a contest of skill by the goddess Athena, makes the horrible, horrible choice of actually winning said contest-her banishment , first to Hades realm and the Poseidon's, is rendered less by camera tricks and more by the practical stagecraft of the day-the few camera effects used near the end all the more singular as a result.

There is a small but persistent artifacting in the center portion of the film, but overall this feature is in an amazing state of preservation-and with English Subtitles and Sountrack by JEC for A Cinema History, this modest yet entertaining production is once again ready to be seen by Modern audiences...B&W, Music.
