The original 78rpm single was issued on Bluebird B-8263 - You Are My Sunshine by The Pine Ridge Boys (Marvin Taylor & Doug Spivey), recorded August 22, 1939
There has never been complete agreement on who actually composed this country-pop standard (Paul Rice? Oliver Hood?), though it is generally credited to singer-politician Jimmie Davis because he and his associate Charles Mitchell purchased the song and rights from one of its previous 'composers.'
