There is now a real and open coup going on in the UK.
It is a coup of a legislature that refuses to abide by the instruction on remaining in or leaving the EU, that it asked the sovereign people to rule on.
It is a coup of the establishment against the people, or should we now refer to the people as the proles once again, as they are stripped of their democratic right to determine their own future.
Tonight the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, drove the final nail he had available to him into the coffin lid of democracy while, unbelievably, the whole Remainer campaign whooped in delight.
Bercow effectively ruled against Brexit.
I've talked about Royal Consent before and explained that, where a bill going through the Commons would obviously be at odds with the rights of government under the Royal Prerogative, which this bill surely does, then it has to have the Queen's Consent before progressing beyond the third reading. Without that consent the bill should fail.
The trouble is that the decision of whether or not the bill interferes with the Royal Prerogative is one for the Speaker of the Commons, John Bercow.
