This is how you properly disassemble, clean, and then reassemble the M40 and M42 series Protective Masks. You should do this whenever the mask gets dirty and you are able to devote the time for a thorough cleaning. Otherwise use cheesecloth or a lint free cloth and soft bristle brush. Glass cleaner can be used on the lenses but it must be put lightly on the cloth and not directly on the mask. The rubber of the mask is impregnated and chemicals can seriously interfere with those protective chemicals. Causing them to turn gummy which means the mask is no longer safe to use.
