I am a long-term user of AVM products. First, a 7270 router, then a 7390, 7490 and now the latest and greatest, the 7590. The User Interface of the 7590 is not new to me being essentially the same as for the older 7490. That said, for a someone new to the Fritz!Box the sheer breadth of scope of the 7590 may well be intimidating as it does so much and covers so many areas: modem, router, repeater, Media Server, phone, Answering Machine, ISDN, VOIP, fax, alarms, 3g/4G, NAS, IOT/Smart Devices, DECT. There is also a range of other AVM devices with which it tightly integrates as well as multiple specialised iOS and Android phone apps. Perhaps the main reason I stick with the Fritz!Box is because of the tight integration of telephony within the AVM ecosystem and for that reason, I will look at what the router has to offer from that perspective. An attempt to cover every aspect in detail would take forever and make this review far too long.
The 7590 arrived in a large, colourful and distinctively AVM product box inside of which was the router itself, a UK power supply, a UK specific 4M long wiring loom (a dual data and telephone cable), and extensive paperwork and quickstart guides (although no full-length user Guide). The 7590 sports the redesigned look of the AVM range and is more contemporary in appearance than the old Dan Dare styled models. It has a larger footprint at 250 x 185 x 48mm than previous models and cannot be mounted vertically so care may have to be found to find the right location for it.
Looking at the device itself on the rear there are four Gigabit LAN ports, a WLAN port (for external modems, cable boxes etc), IDSN S bus port, two analogue phone line ports, power in, USB 3, on the sides are a second USB 3 port and another phone port.
You can connect the device as a modem/router to almost any internet source as it supports ADSL, VDSL, VDSL vectoring, and 35b supervectoring at up to 300 Mbit/s. It can be connected to a regular UK ADSL line as well ..
